Here are the announcements for the week of October 10th
Parents and Guardians,
We welcome all parents to attend our
parent/teacher conferences on the evenings of Wednesday October 12th
from 5-8 p.m. and Thursday, October 13th from 5-8 p.m. These conferences are walk-in conferences.

6th grade parents:
As we approach the beginning of the second quarter we will have some
schedule changes. Many students will change into a different quarter elective
class while some students will see some movement within their core classes, for
example a student, may move from 1st hour math to 2nd hour math. For the last
few years SRMS has waited until the start of the second quarter to transition
6th grade students into honors courses, with the exception of math. We
wait until the second quarter to allow our teachers time to get to know
students and their academic abilities to help determine whether they are
prepared for the academic rigor that comes with an honors class. Students
are placed into honors classes based on a body of evidence that includes past
test performances on both PARCC and MAPs, past and present grade level
performances and current ability levels as observed by 6th grade
teachers. If your student is being moved into an Honors Science, Reading,
or Writing class at the beginning of the quarter, you will be notified by a
teacher. Parents will not be notified of any changes that don't involve
students transitioning into honors courses. Although we always try to
keep schedule changes to a minimum, some changes are necessary to best meet the
needs of all our students.
Parents and students,
Due to the large number of students that are riding
their scooters to school, we are no longer able to have students
store their scooters in the bins outside the office. The drop off and
pick up procedure has created significant disturbances outside the office and
some students have even had their scooters stolen. Therefore,
starting at the beginning of the second quarter, when students return
on October 17th, students will no longer be able to store
their scooters in the bins outside the office. Students will be
expected to lock their scooters up within the bike cage, located on
the south side of the building. Students that do not have locks for
their scooters are welcome to purchase one from the school store. For
$5 students can purchase a scooter lock system; this lock is comprised
of a cable that is designed to fit through the spokes of
any scooter tire and a key lock. Students will be responsible for
securing their scooter within the bike cage. As always, the school is
not responsible for lost and stolen property.
Thank you for supporting our decision to have
all scooters locked outside beginning second quarter. If your student
does not feel comfortable locking their scooter in the bike cage, we
suggest that they leave their scooter at home.
Book
Fair is coming to Shadow Ridge. During conference week, our book fair
will be open in the library during school hours - 8:30 - 4:00. The book
fair will also be open during evening conference times. Our book fair
will run from Monday, Oct. 10th through Thursday, Oct. 13th.
No School Friday October 14th District In-Service Day
Parents: Shadow Ridge Middle School participates in the
programs "Box Tops for Education" and "Labels for
Education". Many of the food and household items that families purchase
have these coupons or emblems on the sides of boxes or wrappers of
the item. Please send any of these box tops or labels to SRMS
with your student. There is a turn in box for each type in the
main office. All of these items turned in mean dollars for SRMS.
The second Shadow Ridge
Community Night will be held on Tuesday, October 18th from 5:30 to
6:30 in the library. Reading, Writing and ESL teachers and students will be
presenting. Free babysitting will be provided.

Estas son las noticias de la semana
de octubre 10
Padres de Familia y Tutores,
Queremos invitar a todos los padres de
familia para que asistan a las conferencias de padres de familia/maestros. Estas se llevaran a cabo el miercoles Octubre
12 de 5-8 pm y el Jueves Octubre 13 de
5-8 pm. Estas conferencias son sin cita.
Padres
de Familia de 6to grado
Al acercarse el comienzo del segundo cuartimestre tendremos algunos
cambios en los horarios. Muchos estudiantes tendrán una nueve clase electiva
mientras otros estudiantes serán transferidos a otros grupos, por ejemplo un
estudiantes podrá ser transferido de primera hora de matemáticas a segunda hora
de matemáticas. En los últimos año SRMS
se ha esperado hasta el inicio del segundo cuartimestre para hacer la
transición de los estudiantes de sexto grado a los cursos de honores, con la
excepción de matemáticas. Nos esperamos hasta el segundo cuartimestre para que
los maestros tengan tiempo de conocer a sus estudiantes y sus habilidades
académicas para poder determiner si estan preparados para el rigor académic que
se require en las clases de honor. Los estudiantes son colocados en las clases
de honores basándose en evidencia que los maestros de 6to grado han observado
en pruebas previas de PARCC y MAPS así como su desempeño actual. Si su estudiantes
va a ser transferido a una clase de Honores de Ciencias, Lectura ó Escritura al
principio de este cuartimestre, usted recibira una notificación del maestro.
Solamente se les notificará a los padres de familia que su hijo/a vaya a entrar
a un curso de honores.
Padres de familia y
estudiantes,
Debido al
gran número de estudiantes que traen su scooter a la escuela, ya no somos
capaces de almacenar las scooters en los contenedores afuera de la oficina. El
procedimiento de dejar y recoger las scooters afuera de la oficina ha creado
mucha confusion hasta el punto que algunas han sido robadas. Por lo tanto, el próximo trimestre, a
partir del 17 de octubre, los estudiantes no podran dejar sus scooters en los
contenedores afuera de la oficina. Los estudiantes tendrán que dejar sus
scooters y ponerles candado en la jaula de bicicletas, situada en el lado sur
del edificio. Por $5 dls los estudiantes
puedan comprar un candado para su scooter.
Este
candado consta de un cable que está diseñado para caber a través de los radios
de la rueda del scooter y una cerradura para la llave. Los estudiantes serán responsables de sus scooters. La escuela no se hace responsable de la
perdida o robo de las scooters.
Gracias por apoyar nuestra decisión de tener todas las
scooters afuera del edificio empezando el segundo cuatrimestre. Si su hijo/a no se siente a gusto dejando la scooter afuera
junto a las bicicletas, les sugerimos que mejor dejen su scooter en casa.
La
Feria del Libro de Scholastic será el la biblioteca de Shadow Ridge durante las
semana de conferencias de padres de familia/maestros. La feria del libro sera en la biblioteca y el
horario es de 8:30-4:00. Tambien estaremos en las tardes durante los
dias de las conferencias. La feria del libro sera del lunes 10 de Octubre
hasta el Jueves 13 de Octubre.
No habra clases el Viernes
Octubre 14 District In-Service Day
La
segunda noche de la comunidad de Shadow Ridge será el martes, 18 de Octubre de
5:30 a 6:30 p.m. en la biblioteca. Los
maestros y estudiantes de Lectura, Escritura y ESL harán la presentación. Tendremos servicio gratis para el cuidado de los niños.
Familia:
Shadow Ridge Middle School participa en el programa “Box Tops para la
educación” y etiquetas para la educación.
Muchos de los artículos de comida y hogar que las familias compran
tienen estos cupones o emblemas a los lados de las cajas o en las envolturas de
los productos. En la oficina principal
hay un lugar donde puede depositar cada uno de los cupones o emblemas. Estos cupones se convierten en dinero para
SRMS.
